If I'm worth hundreds of millions, I'd consider it...
Dec 22, 2020,16:26 PM
There are many people on here who say they wouldn't spend $817,000 on a single watch. However, many of those individuals might have collections that total over $817,000 in value. Is there a difference between having 2-3 watches that are $817,000 USD?

We all have our priorities I guess.

Would you pay $817,000 USD for a watch? That is the price of a very nice house in my part of the country, a small fleet of cars, plenty of vacations/cruises, a vacation home and many more things. We all have different means and priorities on this forum, s...
No. But who am I to judge?

I've never even paid 1/10th of that amount for a watch... but I have paid 1/20th of that amount, and 1/20th of $817,000 is a TOTALLY unreasonable amount of money to pay for a wristwatch. No sane person would spend that. So, not being a sane person, I'm in...
ABSOLUTELY

Much to what Nico said, its all relative. Had you asked the 20 year old me (when I first got into watches) if I would ever have the means, or the gall to buy a $20,000 plus I would have thought no way. I probably have no business spending $20k on a watch ...

If I am Christian Ronaldo, yes, I would ;)

Alas, I am just a middle-class guy who loves watches. My most expensive watch is below 12K, and I don't see that I would or could spend more than that in foreseeable future. But yes, the total of all my watches now is nearly 40K. And I feel blessed that I...
Heck yeah I would.

But my wife would absolutely murder me...I would still mull it over though .
Not just Patek

I don't think it is for only Patek. I think the value of most watches is unknown by the general public. Joe Blow may recognize a "nice watch" but has absolutely no idea what it is worth or what the wearer paid. I am trying to get better at values by guess...
Would you spend $100 on a watch?
By: NickO : December 22nd, 2020-18:16
Not a big deal right? But to a couple billion people on this planet who struggle with the basic necessities of food and shelter, this sum of money is as out of reach as $800K is. The point is a simple one, price (of anything) is entirely relative to the m...
Assuming the means were available to buy said watch

Whether or not it was straight up cash or that I would have to liquidate assets to buy, I guess the questions that follow would be 1. How mad am I about this particular watch 2. How good / bad is the deprecation or appreciation. 3. Is it possible to get o...
I would definitely in a blink

but only if I had ten times that amount in my bank account which regrettably I do not!
Well,

it depends on the watch: what we are talking about?

Your financial situation would have to be 30x that to comfortably afford the watch. 25 mil. In which case it’s nobody’s business but yours. I would buy it, if your totally in love with it. And then donate 500k to charity , so you can sleep at night. lol 😂...
