Reading your post, you actually reinforced my feelings and also brilliantly explained each piece in detail and made me discover aspects that I haven’t seen while I owned them.
I didn’t wanted to give give reasons why I would like to reacquire the first two, so that I can keep each piece as neutral as possible...
The Dato was my first big league watch back in 2013, and at the time I thought that it was my exit watch, but sadly when my dad got sick I decided to pert with it so that I can finance his treatment which I knew is was pointless at that time...
Also the Dato was the only watch that he admitted, this coming from a man who never cared about watches let alone expensive watches. Therefore this watch would remind me of him as many times I would look at the watch.
The Vacheron was the watch that gave the achievement feeling years later by having an arguably “grand complication”, the legendary movement, the Platinum case, the art of case making, the engraved moon phase, to me it was pure art. Very good legibility, except the anemic day/month display (but who cares). But at the time being a perfectionist it always bothered me the luck of minute markers, at the bottom of the dial,(the place where the date is located) and I always felt that the chronograph function is compromised.as time passes, I learned to accept in perfection as there is no such thing as perfect.
And with this we end at the Patek, which to me as you mentioned, is the closest to perfect out of the group, and also the closest to my personality.
Some say that it’s cold, I call it restrained, with simple clear cut angles, no fuss just practicality, with just enough detail to express the mastery of the House of Patek. Ahhh those Breguet numerals... something to die for, the amount of labor somebody put in to bring them to that shine...
The moment, built as a fine thoroughbred, nicely finished but also usable in case is needed.
And all this packed in a very comfortable case size and thickness.
A watch that looks like nothing, except to the trained eye, let alone the lineage, that comes with it.
Maybe I feel this way because I never owned this reference while the other two were already in my arsenal, but the first time I saw it, it was”me”. All I am about this watch has it.
So there you have it, this is my angle, and now maybe it’s easier to see why I have each of this fabulous watches in my mind.
I thank you again for the fantastic write up, rest assured that I will reread it multiple times as well as all the other great responses from all my friends here on the forum.
I wish you to stay healthy and safe!
P.S. I encourage you to express more similar options about other watches here, I truly enjoyed it.
