I generally only wear dress watches
and find them robust for daily wear. Of course, I have never worn a watch while swimming or while playing squash but watches are so well made these days that the rigours of most activities would not affect their durability or time keeping. I noticed you mentioned AP and VC but I would strongly suggest that you consider Patek too. You see, most dress watches do not hold their value but Pateks retain their value best. Of course I am not comparing Patek to Voutilainen, Smith, Rexhep, Dufour or Frodsham (the best five in my opinion) as they are in a different price category. Also Patek keeps very good time and only Lange arguably can compete for dress watch accuracy. But most important is that you love whatever you decide to buy

I am considering to acquire my first higher-end piece (relatively-speaking) and would appreciate input from others in terms of their pros & cons of daily life with these much more delicate, dressier models. I'm referring to the thinner (more fragile) ...
The only thing I really try to be cognizant of is sticking my non-dominant hand in tight spaces (mailbox, middle shelf in a grocery store, etc.).
Otherwise, I don't really think about it. Every watch will get scratches, especially a precious metal piece. The first scratch hurts the most. But it will happen if you wear your watch. I don't really think about it. Just wear and enjoy it!
Keep JLC in mind as well...
I've owned a few different "nice" JLC watches through the years and never had any issues with daily wear. The Master Ultra-Thin line is spectacular. The Master Control line is not as "dressy" but just as beautiful.

Always owned two different watches; a daily beater and a dress up watch.
Have enjoyed Pateks, Vacherons and an ALS 1815 for my dress up watch. Of the three I'd strongly recommend an ALS 1815. IMHO their finish is the best for the bucks

An 1815 would be perfect
A.Lange&Sohne 1815 in RG will be absolutely perfect. Nicely hand-finished and a great caliber. Elegant in every way.
