I could lighten up about it, but at the same time, I pour hours into WatchProSite every week trying to improve the world's understanding of the mechanical watch. It's a part of my life's work. If you were as invested in it as I was, you might feel a little different.
You're absolutely right about how "luxury watches are first about the feeling one gets when they hunt down the perfect one" but at the same time, beyond that, and for collectors who are collecting for other reasons than that aforementioned special feeling (I for one collect things I like not for the feeling but often to support the art and patronize a specific brand). But I just feel that if someone is trying to make money, they should try to make an "honest buck" (that's an American term meaning making honest money), and I don't see Hodinkee as an enterprise that does that. And as an individual who is hurt by that, I can't say that I'm entirely happy, nor that I can lighten up about it.
