I agree that the Cartier dial reads "cleaner", though that's probably very subjective.

 

Aesthetically, and "business" aside, the Cariter dial speaks to me more because of its greater symmetry. One might argue that if you're going to execute a very visually active design, à la the Sonata, then a degree of symmetry might help to ground it. Conversely, if you're going for asymmetrical, than keeping it simpler may strengthen the design - think of the Lange 1 or the Breguet Classique 3137.
