How much?
Feb 06, 2022,18:49 PM
Ok, title may be misleading but this “How much?” Is what I hate most on social media when I post a watch…I mean for those who ask this stupid question, you have time to surf the web and cannot just look it up? Why would they think I’m trying to sell 🤦🏻♂️🤬?”
The topic I like to discuss is “how much polishing and hand finishing do you want or need for your watches?”
Recently our “Indie+Macro King mj23” posted his amazing photos and one that caught my eye is his GF gear ⚙️…Link below:
I took some photos of 3 watches and see how they look.
First disclaimer is don’t compare my photo skills and quality, it’s not even close. “mj23” is top notch 👍🏻
What I noticed is the swirls on the GF stopped at a rim and mirror polished the edge, superb work. This is different from most brands where the polish swirls go all the way to the edge, obviously less work but still looks decent.
How much polishing is enough for your liking? I know is this something only independent watch brand can accomplish in terms of skills/specialty or it is just capacity and resource limiting?
If you ask any watch maker to do just polishing, will this skill something he/she can accomplish or is this only a Master/Artist that only GF/PD can do like Picasso/Leonardo DaVinci can do because of their talent?
How much … do you prefer your watch finishing?
For me…PP and Lange is good enough for me.
I know getting a PD, RWS, RR, GF, KV, RG (not in order) are like purchasing an art 🖼 piece due to their scarcity but I don’t look at the polish parts, movements all the time. I buy a watch for the total package of function, looks and quality.
Who knows maybe some day I will change but for now, this is still my current state of mind.
“How much…is too much?”
