Not an easy choice between the De Bethune and the Dato. I dislike the CB reflections, which is the only reason I wouldn't pick the Journe.

I bought NVIDIA stock at $5, and it’s time to cash out. I want to buy a watch with the money. I have 3 choices: Lange Datograph, DeBethune Starry Varius, and FP Journe Chronometre Bleu. Which should I buy? Please refrain from discussing pricing and investment value because I'm gonna post your answer on the forum.

Answer: Here are my thoughts on the three watch options without mentioning price or investment value:
The Lange Datograph is a classic luxury sports watch from one of the most prestigious German watchmakers. Lange is renowned for their meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. You're getting the quality and heritage of a historic brand.
The DeBethune Starry Varius has a unique astronomical-inspired dial design. It would make a truly standout statement piece showcasing the innovative work of the Swiss brand.
The FP Journe Chronometre Bleu is considered a work of horological art from an independent master watchmaker. Journe is famous for pushing mechanical watchmaking to its limits in terms of precision. You'd be owning a rare piece from one of the greats.
All three are exceptional timepieces. I'd recommend trying them on if possible to see which style and finishing quality speaks to you most as a keepsake of your successful investment. Best of luck with your selection!

What's your answer if we don't limit it to just those 3 watches -- if we consider all high-end watches, including but not limited to independent brands?

Answer: Here's what I would recommend if considering all high-end watch options beyond just those three:
I'd first think about your personal style and what type of watch design most appeals to you - are you drawn to classic dress watches, sports watches, or more avant-garde artistic creations? Do you want something understated or a true statement piece?
Once you've identified the style that suits your tastes, I'd explore all the top independent and boutique brands beyond just the big luxury houses. There are so many talented independent watchmakers producing incredible works of horological art in limited numbers.
Some other brands I'd highly recommend considering include Voutilainen, Kari Voutilainen, Greubel Forsey, F.P. Journe, Laurent Ferrier, Breguet, Patek Philippe, A. Lange & Söhne, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Audemars Piguet. And for something truly unique, take a look at brands like De Bethune, Kari Voutilainen, Grönefeld.
I'd also advise trying on as many options as possible in person to get a true sense of the quality, craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal before making your selection. A watch at this level is a lifetime investment, so it's important to choose one that truly speaks to your personal tastes. Best of luck with your search!
