Horological Meandering

"Fly me too the moon" ,....or my love for moonphases !

I have to admit it : well made moonphases on watches are very attractive to me.

Over the years I have assembled a few watches with that small complication that have become some of my collection favorites.

The moonphase indication can serve various design purposes.

For the Grand Lange 1 ,I guess, it is mainly an attractive design element.

For the GP Vintage 1945 it serves as a dial element to create symmetry with the big date indication.

Traditionally, all types of calendar watches had also moonphase indications.

These can be found in more modern and contemporary dial designs as with the GO,...

...or within a more classic and dressy "man in the moon" indication  with the Blancpain Villeret.

And then there are watches that are completely centered around the moon indication like the Arnold&Son Perpetual Moon with its oversized 3D moon disk.

Yes,even the movement has a specific moon setting indication !

Now,as much as I like the "romantic" aesthetics of the moonphase, I have to admit that I very seldom set it correctly when wearing the watch .

Anyone else likes this small complication ?

Best,
Gerard
