I think it sad that so many people take their iPhones from a pocket/handbag to check the time, just like my great-grandfather took his pocket watch from his waistcoat. The iPhone needs charging for, say, two hours but is usually left overnight, provided the home is not subject to an electricity power cut like me yesterday. The pocket watch needs charging daily but in only a matter of seconds and possibly in the dark or in the middle of a field!
I still have my great-grandfather’s (sadly only gold-plated) pocket watch from about 1909/10 handed down from his son and then from my late mother. After my service a few years ago, it still works very well, as a lot of others still do and many fetch high prices at auctions. Where will my iPhone be next year or the one after?
I will stick with my elegant mechanical wristwatches to see the time. I suppose the next revolution will be the wrist-iWatch with a built-in generator powered by its revolving weight just like a mechanical automatic watch! Solar power is not really enough. It really is ridiculous for a wristwatch to be necessarily powered overnight on an electronic plate!
