Easy decision
With respect to JC Biver, a great man, a great watch lover.... a charismatic genius... and with respect to ...Hublot... and only because you asked...
Hublot is a blatant and unmistakable copycat of AP. It has no DNA of its own.
Hublot was a brand of no consideration, of virtually zero interest, until Biver made the excellent financial decision to copy AP. (Further proof of Biver's marketing genius)
I could go on.
Simple choice, always AP, never Hublot.
Hublot, no doubt, is a finely executed watch and certainly a good quality watch.
I have even admired an Hublot on a stranger's wrist... yet at the same time thinking, hmmmm , AP copy...
However, Hublot ceases to exist if it stops copying AP. It is that simple.
Many other brands are 'guilty' of this, copying AP, but none so 'successful', creating 'their own' (if you will) identity, as Hublot, riding the coat tails of another brand.
Many have copied Rolex, etc. But they are generally part of the unknown wash of copies.
Many have copied Patek. Same... a pile of unknown brand/ copies...
But none so blatantly and shamelessly as Hublot copied AP, in terms of remarkably identifiable success. (perhaps Invicta? Copying Rolex so successfully? )
Hublot made a name for itself, almost all will agree, copying AP.
That is the design question.
Now as for financial, collectible value... it's not even close.
Hublot will comparably have a regrettable aftermarket life, while AP will live (relatively) vitally, in terms of aftermarket, but we are asked to not talk extensively about value here.
I leave you to your decision.
