The [anti] hero forsakes his wife, his son, his career and all the trappings of modern existence in his obsession for the object of his desire - his son’s fiancée. The final scene has a pathetic Irons sitting in an empty room staring at a giant picture of Binoche. We are perhaps not that many steps from that level of obsession.
