Horological Meandering

It was a question that was posed to me yesterday about our collection of watches - all of us here are watch enthusiasts and have purchased our watches for a variety of reasons, be it mechanical prowess, history etc. and we all have some (or many) that we ... 

my answer is (mainly because it’s raining) No way, hosay! It's like asking which one of your children you like most? Impossible to answer! But then again if gun is pointed in my head answer is When my children are in question answer is: Shoot but leave me...

At gun point, during a robbery, I was able to kick this one under a table. Very hard moment, but I'm glad that I did the proper choice. Cheers, Nilo...  

and tied to instinct too. Being able to choose at gunpoint has to be an instinctive decision

. . . this one . . . . . . but after discovering the astonishing history of this Omega . . . . . . it has since become a most treasured possession, rivaling the heirloom pieces in my collection. If I had to pick just one, it would be this Seamaster....  

though it looks to be a tough choice even between the two. Both are beauties! Richard

Tough choices to be made at gunpoint, me thinks

my Tortue. I like a small complication, so if I have to stick with one watch, then I prefer something that wears well, not too large and good for formal & informal wear. The Tortue, for me, has all that. GEO...  

To me at least. Have not seen any in the flesh but it is a beauty. Rarity is a good virtue and compelling reason to hold on to it

I would keep my Habring 2 jump seconds. It's my favorite watch out of the collection. I enjoyed working with Richard and Maria Habring on the elements I wanted for the particular watch, and in the process gained great respect for them. Since then I've had... 

That human connection trumps all reasons!

I have a rule that in the event of losing a piece from my collection would I go out and repurchase a similar item? If the answer is no then that piece leaves my collection as it's not truly satisfying me. However, if forced to pick one I would go for my P...  

And I see completely how it would be easy for you Richard

because I don't think I will ever find a watch that is like this one again....

Really is an amazing piece, and a lovely dial to go with it. Saw a great close up on your other post and if I had it.... ;-) Richard

... after I had a new black double-sided crocodile strap fitted at the F.P.Journe Boutique. While dark brown was the traditional strap colour for this dial, the black really makes the watch 'head' stand out on the wrist. Thanks for your kind words. Andrew...
