A good friend and fellow watch collector recently told me
that he wears a Sunto more than anything else these days.
The closest I’ve gotten to a “smart” watch is a G-Shock. It’s the JDM version of the original square, and I love it. But since I moved a few months ago, it hasn’t been able to sink (“RECEIVE”) and auto-update the time, so it’s been sitting on my coffee table.
At the risk of meandering off topic, I’ve recently found myself rethinking what I really like, in terms of watches and other “stuff”. While I don’t have an especially large or super-valuable collection, I feel like there are a few watches in my watch roll and here-and-there which should find new homes, some for aesthetic reasons and some because I now live in a sub-tropical climate. So, I will likely gift my Reverso to my mom and my SLA017 to my dad, once the latter gets serviced (Dad really likes the Seiko, and I think the Reverso suits Mom perfectly). Don’t get me wrong, I like both of those watches, but I think I’d rather see them on someone else’s wrists, and whose better than my folks’?
As for most of the rest? I guess I’ll trade or sell them off in an effort to realign and perhaps restart my small collection. I’ve been thinking of the process as a distillation down to… something.
I recently missed out on a nice ‘60’s era Canadian Air Force issued Breitling chronograph like Nico posted recently. I’m on “the list” for an Aquanaut (LOLOLOLOL), and I’ve considered getting a new Pepsi or white dialed Explorer II. But boy a really nice 1016 or even an interesting vintage Datejust would be cool too… or maybe an older Calatrava, or one of the “dirty dozen”, or an IWC/Porsche Design Ocean diver..? Clearly, I have some thinking to do, even though this is supposed to be fun, and therefore not over thought.
So, full circle: While I don’t see a Sunto or smart watch in my future (BTW I’m keeping the G-Shock), I’ve been wearing one watch almost exclusively as of late. I guess at the end of the day I’m a pretty simple guy who misses more analog times.
Cheers all, and enjoy your Garmin!
