Seller’s Description of a 1965 Buick Riviera;
(modified by me to describe my watch ...)
The
dial of the incredible 1965
ROLEX here is finished in its original gorgeous Cream Color. This magnificent
Timepiece has been meticulously maintained and preserved from new and has had only two owners since it
walked off the showroom floor
on its new owner's arm. Retained by the second owner/collector for over five decades, seldom do these desirable
Datejusts come to market, especially in this exquisite condition. We are glad to offer this
ROLEX to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the rarity of this investment-grade
Swiss classic, an investment that I personally believe will grow beyond your imagination!
The 1965 production year marked the final year of the first-generation Datejust, and with it came the debut of the "Gas Meter Dial"—a moniker that would become synonymous with beauty and celebrated for years to come by Rolex enthusiasts. The Datejust was powered by a 36-hour reserve movement backed by a self-winding rotor, with larger-diameter case, heavy-duty seals, and an upgraded Oyster case. Considering the beautiful styling (such as the lovely Arabic numerals) and subtle performance upgrades, it is easy to see how Rolex justified the factory-suggested price of $438. For the first year of the officially certified Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Superlative Chronometer "Gas Meter" it is believed that Rolex produced just 3,354 examples. Once described by the legendary Italian designer Sergio Pininfarina as ‘One of the most beautiful Swiss watches built’, this powerful watch looks as avant-garde and striking today as it did half a century ago!
