Horological Meandering

Do you have a watch from the year you were born?

For a long time I was very happy when I looked at my wrist and the watch from the year I was born. However, learning from people that know more about horology than I do it seems pretty clear that watches made before let say the year 2000 the degree of certainty is not very high regarding the year it was acctually assembled. Back in those days the manufacturer did not focus on this and it took many more years before focus was fixed on this.

Experts say that despite what it says regarding year in The Extract document it can just as well be +/- 1 or 2 years. If this is true the feeling for me is somewhat lost when I wear my watch that in the Extract says "my year" but the odds is pretty high that it was made another year.

On the other hand knowing what we know today it is a nice feeling owning a watch that is more recent and that was made the same year as a grandchild was born. For me the plan is of course to pass it on one day Would be interesting to hear our community's thoughts on this topic. Thanks Pelle
