Moderators, Regulars and Guests - the bar has been raised very high. Both photographically and the subject matter.

Thanks for this inspiration!

MEANING OF THIS ENGLISH SLANG PHRASE

1. To thoroughly impress, overwhelm, or excite someone... A person being impressed or surprised, so much so that they leap out of their socks in shock.

2. To completely outclass, outdo, or outperform someone...  In the mid-19th century, the idea for the phrase “knock your socks off” meant someone being slugged so hard or repeatedly, they’re literally knocked out of their shoes and socks.

3. Tsoundly defeat or conquer something... An early example was printed in the Logansport Democractic Pharos newspaper, January 1856. An advertisement for a Patent Remedy (also known as "Snake Oil") read as follows:

“King’s American remedy for Chills and Fever" knocks the socks off that disease.

NOTE: The original noun employed in this phrase... "sock" was derived from the Latin "soccus", meaning "light shoe or slipper" when it entered the forerunner of the English language around 900AD.  By the early 14th century, "sock" meant "a short stocking covering the ankle and part of the calf."  The arrangement of shoes-over-socks is important in understanding "knock your socks off."  The phrase first appeared in the mid-19th century meaning "to beat or vanquish someone thoroughly," at first used literally;  to win so convincingly in a brawl that the loser might not to only lose his shoes in the tussle but his socks too.

A threat like "to knock your socks off" was one of a number of phrases popular at the time, including "knock your lights out" and "knock you into next week."

I feel the love for the Observer, so I post a post when I got my one

I guess I've been bad this year, there was nothing from the Santa. So I have to do something about it and get myself at least something that I appreciate. So I went for a hunt in Stockholm and stop by at my friend Roger's Watch Shop. He tell me, just look...

Nothing short of amazing...
