Friends,
After the success of the Vintage 1945 with Sapphire dial from last year, Girard-Perregaux follow up with a new version of the Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT with Sapphire dial!
Again on a watch with Large Date function, showing the date mechanism under the dial.
I find the Large Date very appealing in this format, possible for the wearer to see the two date disks working in sync!
The Sapphire dial has a smoky grey tone making it possible to hint/see different parts of the movement depending on angle and light.
Except for the tone on the Sapphire, the Longitudes and Latitudes are engraved as a grid connecting to the travel theme. A very nice touch!
Both the Moon Phases and the second time zone are none see through which makes them easy to read.
About visibility, many see through/skeleton dials are difficult to read, but here I find the contrast between the Sapphire dial and the big luminous hands very easy to read.
About the Large Date function, once triggered the date change is completed under 5 milliseconds. We actually tried to capture it on video in slow-motion, but it was too fast!
The Sapphire dial version comes in two metals: Stainless Steel and Pink Gold. Same as for the Vintage 1945 with Sapphire dial and again the different metals gives the watches very different looks and characters.
The Steel is more cold and technical while I find the Pink Gold version warmer and more elegant.
The case is the same as for the normal Traveller, 44 mm in diameter and 12.10 mm high.
The long curved lugs really set a nice frame to the watch and makes wearing the watch a pure pleasure.
Inside is the automatic movement GP03300-0093. Hour, minute, small second (on top of the moon phases), large date, moon phase indicator, 24-hour second time zone with day/night indicator.
A power reserve of 46 hours minimum and water resistant down to 100 meters.
On the wrist, the two show very different appeal.

And depending on light the dial reveal different details…

My initial thoughts are that I find the Sapphire dial super cool! Really like the smoky color and the contrast it gives to the dial and to what is underneath. Frist reaction, which I am not sure if it shows in the photos, is that the watch looks and feels smaller than 44mm!
Another nice surprise from Girard-Perregaux!
This is a watch I really hope to have the chance to look closer and test a bit…
Will come back to this one for sure!
Best
