Fire, Desire, Obsession: Return of The Little Laureato 🔥

Jan 22, 2025,17:53 PM

The last several months have been pretty crazy for me. As some of you know, for financial reasons, I sold off a large part of my collection recently.

There were 2 reasons I sold my 38 mm blue Laureato: 1) For financial reasons, 2) I spent WAY too much for it, (I bought it when it was rare and discontinued by GP, five months before GP created a new release of pretty much the exact same watch). Of course that didn’t feel good.

So being the stubborn Son of a B I am, after I sold it, I said to myself, “There are only a few watches that evoke the same emotion that this watch does. If I can find it again, for a much fairer deal, I’ll consider re-buying it…”

Fast forward two months… Could it be??  🚨🤯 I located a mint pre-owned one, and negotiated a steal of a deal. OK… OK… Call me crazy 🤪 Some will say this is a bit dramatic 😂 But this move was justified, because it feels good !! 😎 OK, I feel much better about that entire situation now, it’s back on my wrist now!!

There is something to be said about “value” and “getting a deal” - I am not phrasing this correctly right now so I am sorry

+1

Very funny, highly relatable. Stories like this make what we obsess about tangible, I think. What pains me, though: that super snug fit! Cheers Marc

Haha, cheers Gwai!

I NEVER wear bracelets (or straps for that matter) tight on my wrist. The seller was very clear in his listing before the sale that this watch will fit a 7 inch wrist. It’s too snug, and I’m only tolerating it because of said obsession and love for this p...

That's a relief! I was about to add,

"I sincerely hope my pain seeing this is greather than yours wearing it", hehehe.

Hey, we’re all friends and enablers here !

It was never on my radar either until I tried it on. And I’m SO HAPPY I DID! I believe you are a fellow new englander if I’m not mistaken. Check out European Watch Company and Shreve, Crump and Lowe in Boston, they usually have a decent selection of Laure...

You did the right thing!

It's a great watch, and great for you--and I just tried one on today and was pretty impressed by it! Great watch, looks great in this dial color, belongs in your watch box. Congratulations!

Most appreciated Ian!

Yea, it’s not going anywhere, it belongs with me 😎 Thanks for your kind comments

It's a nice-looking watch...

...I saw one a couple of weeks ago along with an Alpine Eagle... In the same category but totally different watches...would hate to have to choose between them...

Thanks mdg!

The AE is cool. Since the 41 mm case is much too big for my 7 inch wrist , the 38 mm Laureato is the easy choice

Good for you to have that beauty again. Such an versatile watch

I myself wait to see the Sage green on my hand before commit. And i am patiently wait for the preowned one. No way i will pay RRP for a Laureato.

Thanks for your comments

Since the newly released “Midnight Blue” is the same color as my “older” version, I’m eager to see the Sage Green with my own eyes soon. Like the copper , it’s an interesting color. But I still like blue best! Yes, we are in full agreement there, pre-owne...

Wow 😮

Laureato white dial 38 mm to laureato blue dial 42 mm to laureato 38 mm blue dial to laureato 38 blue dial. 😅 This has to be some kind of record ? Well, I sincerely hope your mind is made up and you are happy. 🙏🏻 On a side note, the laureato 38 mm white, ...

Marc, hope all is well !

Yes, it must be some kind of record 😂 My mind is made up, I’m overjoyed and this one is here to stay 👍🏻 What would you like to see for the 50th this year, a new movement? New dial colors? I think it’s cool they are adding a 40 mm case size to compliment t...

Very hard to compare based on case diameter

By: SingaporeMarc : January 23rd, 2025-17:38
As I find it means next to nothing in terms of how a watch wears. There is already a 40 mm laureato Chronograph and I don’t think that the 1 mm extra of the laureato 81000 is going to make a big difference. I also hope that folks start to understand funda...

Well informed post Marc

I agree about case diameter! It is but one measure of proportion. The other key measures for me being case thickness and lug to lug. Once you have all three, it gives you a much better preview of how it will wear on the wrist. Until you get to try it on i...

So if I’m understanding you correctly

For the 50th, if GP create a Laureato with some throw back neo vintage features, such as a large grid dial (like your quartz Laureato), or a white date wheel. You are looking for more? You are hoping that the 50th model itself inspires collectors to explo...

Hmm 🤔

By: SingaporeMarc : January 24th, 2025-18:21
The “mega” grid you are referring to comes from the Laureato Evo3. They were first released in 2004 and the majority are not particularly rare and are at 44 mm. My quartz evo3 ref 80188 was released as a novelty on 2010 is 42.6 and very rare (I estimate l...

I saw the one just listed on c24

By: SingaporeMarc : January 24th, 2025-17:59
There are actually two listed. One in America and one in Europe. It’s a beauty but no, not for me. My focus is on rare neo-vintage. I don’t have any full precious metal laureatos. I have the two tone laureato 8010 and the 2-tone laureato-olimpico. I also ...
