Girard Perregaux

1966 Chrono

I've been on a white metal/blue dial kick recently.  Here is the one that sent me down the path.

Ref. 49539 in white gold.

Simple, two register chronograph and no date (which I like in this configuration).

40mm in diameter and 12mm thickness is perfect for me.  Manual movement would probably be better.  The GP030C0 caliber is too small for the case although it is nicely decorated.

At the end of the day, this is a very pretty piece and of good value.

As far as the line...GP seems to have trouble settling on a configuration here.  In 2012 they increased the size to 42mm and added a date -- both mistakes from my point of view.  They also kept is self winding although I think with a new caliber and higher power reserve. This was Ref. 49542.

Finally, they launched the 49529 with a lovely manual movement.  To me, this is what the watch should have.  They decreased the size back to 40mm (good in my view), but kept the date (not for me). Power reserve jumped up to 56 hours, which is way more than the 49539.
