Regarding service, here's what is generally recommend.
For routine maintenance, FP Journe generally suggests servicing every 4-5 years, even if the watch is running perfectly. This preventative approach helps ensure the longevity of the movement and catches any potential issues before they become problems. The natural oils in the movement will degrade over time regardless of use.
For US-based service, the Miami service center can handle most routine maintenance on the Optimum. They have factory-trained technicians and appropriate parts. However, for more complex issues or complete overhauls, they sometimes do need to send watches back to Geneva. The Miami center has improved significantly over the years, though.

I guess when to service is always controversial.
Some folks I speak to recommend not touching a watch's innards unless performance notably off. Others suggest routine service every 5-10 yrs even if running smoothly.

Watch is ~10yrs old or so, looks great, and appears to be running fine. Once new strap comes, will wear it for a week and get a better sense.
