Many thanks for the encouragement!

I always thought if I was not happy with the height of the RW Smith that I may 'swap' it for a Voutilainen Vingt 8 and Rexhep's Chronometre Contemporain Revision Two due next year.  Sounds like a no brainer for some but like you say, the wearability of a watch is terribly important above all else.  It is like having a supercar which is way too wide for the daily drive through traffic!  smile

I bought an Elegante from FP Journe in Geneva in January (yes I know - a monumental jump from Elegante to Resonance!!) and when I buy a watch, apart from the watch itself, I tend to judge the company by its service.  Needless to say, the service I received in Geneva was exemplary to say the least.  I have always been a bit concerned about the cost of servicing a FP Journe due to its unique movement design and I will need to enquire about the possible servicing cost of the Resonance.

Currently, my thoughts are if the RW Smith fails my height test, hopefully its sale will be able to finance the purchase of a Resonance and Vingt 8.

The height of the RW Smith on my dainty wrist!

I wonder how many parts in the movement - it looks highly complex

378 on the movement alone, 62 jewels. [nt]

Indeed

It raises the blood pressure of the viewers and may damage their financials permanently. I lose sleep if I look at such photographs at night. My wife has serious objections as well. Moderators please take note. 😜😍🥰🤩

Oh sorry, Mr. Journe's official statement was in French:

I am not normally keen on overly complicated watches

 By: sham1 : April 28th, 2020-06:49
But this offering is quite something. What for me is most amazing is the movement size is 34.6mm and yet FP Journe can place it in a 40mm case! For me that in itself is a feat as it leaves slight more than 5mm for the case to surround the movement.

The size is amazing, and single mainspring with differential (and the dual remontoirs!)

If I may ask: How would you exchange this with the RWS without the process of first acquiring the RWS and then selling it? You super collectors know things to which mere housecats of horology have no ken.

So sorry, I made it sound so easy

 By: sham1 : April 28th, 2020-12:48
but you are right, I would have to collect the RW Smith, possibly sell it if I find the height of the watch too high (which it could very well be at 13 or 13.5mm compared to the Resonance 11mm) and then use the sale proceeds to buy the Resonance. I know t...

Oh, I think you'll stand to make money with the RWS (a chance to have it today rather than in 5 years is worth a premium)

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 28th, 2020-14:46
13.5mm x 38mm is going to be quite different than 40mm x11mm. The thing about FPJ is his watches are always meant to be daily wearers. They are very wearable! And FPJ the company is that special independent with all the magic of being run by a genius watc...

Many thanks for the encouragement!

Your back-up plan is pretty incredible!

My back up plan sounds promising

 By: sham1 : April 29th, 2020-05:06
but it all depends on how much I would get from the sale of a brand new Series 2. We shall see.

A lot! I have a confession:

I saved that picture of the chonky RWS from when you first posted it. It helped cure my thirst for one. But, it shouldn't, since my Breguet Marine tourbillon chrono is a little thicker (or thiccer, as kids say). I will try and keep this knowledge from mys...

42mm x 14mm comparison

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 29th, 2020-08:59
For size reference only, not that my watch could ever hold a candle to a RWS! ...

Sure, it's something like 18.6cm but somewhat flat.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 29th, 2020-09:49
The proportions of the watch plus the sloped bezel also help a lot. I should say that the terms "chonky" and "thicc" have positive and affectionate connotations! A big, adorable cat will get a lot of "He's a chonker!" And a fully filled-out women may draw...

Ah ok, that was what I thought. My wrist is ~ 16.5cm so 2cm smaller than yours...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : April 29th, 2020-10:03
I had a Breguet 5817ST which is 40mm and remember it wearing well for the size. Your Breguet Marine Tourbillon is 42mm with slightly longer lugs so I would have thought it wore much bigger but since your wrist is also 2cm larger than mine, it makes sense ...

You are very fortunate

 By: sham1 : April 29th, 2020-10:11
that your wrist is 2cms bigger than mine! Thank god we are talking wrists here

Well, given that my hand is all palm, no finger, I'm glad we're comparing wrists

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 29th, 2020-10:47
And not fingers I once dated a pianist and she had small wrists and palms but super long fingers. ...

She must have been very slim and tall

As I am a semi midget, I prefer to date midgets

I see your point and respect it, but one word: Amazons.

I think somehow

 By: sham1 : April 29th, 2020-10:09
42mm x 14mm is less obviously high than 38mm x 13.5mm so perhaps one could say your lovely Breguet is more balanced. You see, if Kari with his Vingt 8 which comes in 37mm or 39mm can make the height of his watches 10.8mm and 11.5mm respectively and Rexhep...

KV can wear a little big as you've no doubt found.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 29th, 2020-10:59
Here's a 39mm on me, fits well. I would consider the 37 for you, if you go with Kari. The Rexhep is perfect, of course. Haven't tried it, but you just know... ...

Yes I have tried many version of the Vingt 8

 By: sham1 : April 29th, 2020-21:53
so not only would I have mine in 37mm but also in titanium as I prefer my watches light so that I can't feel them and they then become an extension of my wrist and part of me. Until a few years ago, Kari did not make his watches in titanium so when he sho...

Oh yeah!!!

I understand why FPJ was responsive to people asking GMT functionality, but the symmetry was nice.

Wow that is quite the video!
