A friends Watch….
I always found the stone dials fascinating. Incredibly difficult to make but they complement the materials of a delicate tourbillon and it’s Its golden warm backplate perfectly.
My favorite was always the jade stone dial but I was unsure if the natural ruby was too much. Not because it’s isn’t beautiful but because of its strong color. Is it a bit too much in the long run? My friend wore this piece over some days in Geneva and as I had time to observe it on his wrist, in many different settings, I have to say I have fallen in love with this piece. It is different from when you see it in pictures. It is deeper and warmer. IMO absolutely not too much and a very different beast to the other Journe Tourbillons.
Watches must be seen on the wrist and pin a context to be evaluated properly. This was I nice reminder.
While it has a strong presence It also has a balance. I think part of this is, that my friend kept it on the Pt bracelet. There is nothing to interfere with the dial. A bit like the 5131P. Clearly it’s not an everyday piece but the watch exudes refinement and artistic vision. It has made a lasting impression on me.
Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.
Thank you to the owner for letting me play with this unusual and wonderful watch.
