Horological Meandering

When is big too big - or not big enough

I know this is always a touchy subject because there is a feeling that big is a trend.  But the trend seems to have legs.  You can't deny that more and more are going for bigger.  Across Europe over the summer the trendy ladies are all sporting Rolex Submariners and explorers.  Man size no longer the small 34mm but the full 40mm.  It is no longer just jewelry for women they too want to be able to read time on a full size crystal.

Not to be too controversial but I think that 40-42mm is the new 36-38mm for men.  And I don't think women are much different.  At least you can read what time it is.  I think in the sports mode 42-44mm hits the spot without being too excessive.  Beyond 44mm you are in a class where you have to exercise caution.  I have to admit I do have such pieces my self which include IWC Big Pilot among several.  But I really do not find it excessive in any way.

For that dressy occasion even my Bell & Ross feels at home.  LOL.
