I'm stil lin a deep phase of horofatigue as some here may know and I thought to get myself out of it, I'd start my Lim 5 project which eseentially is to find a family watch for the 5 members of my family. I started an ambitious search and wanted to get the same brand and model of watch for each member of my family but the watch for each member had to be launched in the same birth year as each member. This requirement proved to be very challenging and in fact, near impossible. On this note, I must thank the ex-Singapore CEO of JLC who very kindly helped with this project in his freetime. This nice gentleman has now moved to helm Rolex Australia and Patrick, if you are reading this, I'm sure in your new office, you will approve of the outcome of the Lim 5 Project
Back to the Lim 5 project. I looked at JLCs, Omegas, VCs and of course as you are reading this in the Rolex forum, Rolexes. The birth year criteria was proving to be extremely challenging and with my horofatigue worsening, I frankly abandoned the Lim 5 project for a while..... totally forgot about it.
In the meantime, as still is the case now, I found my SeaDweller a very nice, comfortable watch to wear. I really like it... why I don;t know. I then decided this year to send in my Oyster Precision for servicing (which I then found out is about 60 years old) as I had intended to remove some links for my second son to wear for family outings. The SD will be for my elder son's use also for family outings. The very small Oyster Perpetual which I gifted my wife upon the birth of my elder son will also have lilnks removed for my youngest child and daughter for family occasions. The Lim 5 Project was accidentally re-ignited when I finally found my YG Strap with champagne and black sub-dials PN Daytona. I've liked the Daytona for a while but not so the SS version for some reason as classic as they may be. I also looked at the YG Bracelet Daytona with PN dial and it was lovely BUT.... extremely loud and I would just be too conscious of it. So much gold but the weight, heft and feel of it is gorgeous BUT .. not for ME.
So with my YG PN Daytona on order, that left me with the dilemma of my wife who now had no Rolex as I had passed down her Oyster Perpetual to my daughter, prematurely of course
. I asked some watch buddies and authorities and one of them sugested the Yachtmaster in mid size. The Yachtmaster really is a lovely watch especially in person and I actually think the men's size looks the best for some reason. The mid-size seems well, mid... neither here nor there for some reason
. I took my wife to see all 3 sizes (no more surprise I guess) and she found the 29mm ladies size, smallest of the 3, to suit best her fancy. Nothing fancy, nothing clunky was her brief
So that was that and unitentionally and with admittedly laxed criteria from launch/birth year and model synergy, the Lim 5 Project found fruition and came to completion. They ain;t Pateks or super high complications but for regular use and to stand the test of time which my Dad's Oyster Precision handed down to me still does, I think the Rolex is an apt watch for the Lim 5 Project.
Finally, some pics of course and this is what a slow Sunday PM waiting for the Chinese Grand Prix to start does to you... it sets off horological musings. And to Patrick if you are reading this, thanks for the help in the initial weeks fo the Lim 5 Project. To that Moderator here that likes comparing finishings
, also a thank you for a point to the SS/PT YM.
