My first Breguet - Marine 5817
Hello Breguet Purists!
I am quite delighted to have picked up my first ever Breguet today! A 5817 Marine big date from 2004. The watch is in very good condition with only the usual hairline scratches the exception of noticeable ones on the buckle (an inevitability for any polished buckle I own anyway!)
I hope to do a proper photo series (including some movement macros) and perhaps even a bit of a review when I get back from my current travels but I thought I would share a few pictures here in the meantime:
Few first impressions:
- The dial is distractingly pretty! I often have to check the watch twice to glean the time as I'm distracted the first time! Breguet has many wonderful guilloche dials but this particular dial with its single wavy spiral sunburst is one of their finest IMO

- The combination of 39mm case and shaped, albeit large, lugs wears very well on my 6.7 inch wrist
- The rubber strap is very comfortable, the watch as a whole is one of the most comfortable I own
- theres a bit of grime in between the fluting on the side of case (One of my favourite Breguet features, the fluting not the build up of grim there!), anyone have any tips on cleaning?

... probably not the beach. I don't overly obsess about potential scratching but polished watches and sand is not a good combination :) And thanks for the tip.

congrats. Marine big date is s beauty As for the grime. An old soft bristle toothbrush and some mild soapy water. Roll up your sleeves and to paraphrase my dentist: "brush away from the crystal in circular motions". Enjoy the watch

... and having already tried just (slightly) warm soapy water I think I shall have to wait till I'm home and can grab an old toothbrush. Some muck has really gotten in between the fluting! Theres not much of it but whats there is quite obstinate.

the Marine on a rubber strap is always a great choice! Mine says Hi :) As for the coin edge of the case, as this is a steel case with a water resistance of 100m (if yours is not services for many years best to test the WR first), just bring it to the tap ...

... I am definitely keen to pick up the navy blue strap. Although made for the blue dial version, I think its a great complement to the blued hands and numerals on the white too!

i love the breguet marine, esp. the type you have. the dial is wonderful and the display back has that gorgeous rotor. the band too is such a nice compliment. great looking watch. chris

I have the same but i bought a bracelet which enhances it even more.......the bracelet from AD in UK is £3140 but well worth it..........
Thanks! But although I find the bracelet on its own...
... fairly attractive and nicely finished, I am not a huge fan of the overall combination. It takes too much of the focus away from the dial for my liking. I will stick to the rubber strap I think.
