Well, I say it is Miranda's Daytona 16520, but actually since possession is 9 parts of the law, it is more like MY Daytona 16520.
At least, that is, until I give it back. Miranda, being a really kind soul, offered to lend me her Daytona for a bit. Well, a few days turned into a few weeks....and now its well into summer and weeks turn into months....aggghhhh...I must remember to return it. I really must.
First things first, let me give a massive thanks to Miranda for allowing me the opportunity to test-run this modern Daytona. I have never worn one until this opportunity and have often wondered whether it was a modern Daytona I could wear and own. Some background history of the watch is useful, and in that respect i will pay tribute to the fabulous review that Miranda gave of the watch...the link is below.
Daytona is a special reference for Rolex. It captures the racing spirit better than virtually any other watch in my opinion. There is no question that having worn this modern marvel for some serious wrist-time, I definitely drive faster when wearing it.....3 points on my license attests to that! The watch has a really modern feel to it and most definitely a feel of sportiness and lightness. An agility that is not easy to capture in many sports watches. It also has a really beautiful dial lay-out...very balanced in my view. Yes, this is a watch that captures my attention. Here are a couple of scans I took...
Mandatory wrist-shot
And a straight static
And just for fun, a comparison with the very first Daytona, and early 6239...
The DNA of the Daytona shines through very clearly in my view, but actually I find the two watches very different in feel.
Thanks Miranda for the chance to really give this watch a proper trial.....maybe I should think about giving it back!!

I know I sound like an heretic, here, but I feel the 16520 has a lot of charm, a touch of modernity and the soulf of the Vintage, in better... Now, Black or White... I don't know. I ow, the white, and don't regret my choice, but the black is still obsessi...
but, i have to agree with Nicolas here, this ref is more appealing, to me, than many others...rarer and expensive. plus, the 16520, as everybody know, kicked off the Rolex vintage collecting (starting with the manual winding Dayto) so, Joe, in your shoes,...
I never get tired looking at them...had the opprotunity to face the difficult decision between the white and black.. in the end.. I got both ! Cheers !
