Am I the only one who always runs the chrono function on my chronographs?
I understand the belief that using the function only when needed saves wear to the drivetrain but I have always ignored this advice, choosing instead to believe keeping the oils in play keeps them from thickening. I can only give my anecdotal observation; I’ve yet had to service any of my chronos, even the 23 year old Navitimer and the seriously abused Fortis. Any thoughts on this assuredly already discussed subject?

That a vertical clutch system adds no extra wear on the drivetrain…🤔 this is above my pay grade, though maybe someone can opine?
I "think" you're right on the vertical clutch but might there still be places where lube could become less happy, congealed? I would agree with that idea which is why I try to make
sure all my watches actually run at least once a month.

Even if we don't always think that way, a chrono is a serious complication, yet often taken for granted.
So it is something to admire.

with buttons and lever disengaging and engaging parts of the movement, unlike most complications which add a continuously running component.

I have no chronographs at all. So i have no problem with inactive complications. But if i ad one to my wc, a Navitimer would be the first i think of. Not every Navitimer, i will go for very rare and not common one.

I use chronographs daily, so no need to have them running continuously.
I would understand that concept on a flyback chronograph that can be reset and restarted with but one button pressure. Howeverwer, it would be absurd having to stop the chrono, reset it and start it again when I need it, since that needs three pressures o...
