Adding a Monaco

 

Good afternoon all

I am a watch geek and currently have a few in my collection - a 2015 daytona, an 8 day manual wind Panerai Luminor and a Omega Speedmaster.

Now looking for my next watch and want something that I can wear on holiday and to the beach etc. My short list is cuirrently the new Cartier Santos 100 carbon, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay or the Monaco (aka Steve McQueen).

I am really attracted to the new Monaco that is out, as in my humble view it is a faithful remake of the original - which I think is an iconic watch.

Anyone on here own one and can tell me what they think of it? Also interested in views as to whether it is a good homage to the original or just a brand cashing in?

And if there are any other ideas out there, happy to listen.

pat1964, First....welcome to our place. As this is the Tag Heuer forum, I will address your last question first... I have dithered about a Tag Heuer Monaco since the 1st re-edition; that's how old I am Many of the brands you listed are famous or infamous ...  

I am a big Monaco Fan!

and to be honest, you cannot go wrong with such an iconic piece. Its one of those watches that can be worn dressed up or casual and sporty. Tag Heuer has such a great history and these releases are a great homage to their past (at a good price!). Not want...  

I think TAG Heuer's approach is genuine.

I'm not sure I would even call the new Monacos a "homage." Look at watches such as the Submariner, Fifty Fathoms or Reverso that have been out for decades. They are certainly not considered "homages." In the case of TAG Heuer, they have so many classic wa... 

Nothing to do with TagH... but I always thought 'Homages' is a funny term...

Which seems to be used in the watch world do describe copies of originals... like those Panerai look a likes which are not made by Panerai but are identical but without the logo. Most (including me) would call them copies... watch people call them 'Homage...
