Good afternoon all
I am a watch geek and currently have a few in my collection - a 2015 daytona, an 8 day manual wind Panerai Luminor and a Omega Speedmaster.
Now looking for my next watch and want something that I can wear on holiday and to the beach etc. My short list is cuirrently the new Cartier Santos 100 carbon, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay or the Monaco (aka Steve McQueen).
I am really attracted to the new Monaco that is out, as in my humble view it is a faithful remake of the original - which I think is an iconic watch.
Anyone on here own one and can tell me what they think of it? Also interested in views as to whether it is a good homage to the original or just a brand cashing in?
And if there are any other ideas out there, happy to listen.
Regards and thanks, Pat

pat1964,
First....welcome to our place.
As this is the Tag Heuer forum, I will address your last question first...
I have dithered about a Tag Heuer Monaco since the 1st re-edition; that's how old I am
Many of the brands you listed are famous or infamous for "cashing in" on issuing new models that look just like their old models. Maybe you like the continuity.
As engineers and designers, watch makers have to improve incrementally so our products get better. I think it is OK to retain iconic design cues but new watches , even as tributes, should incorporate something new. It could be unseen things like better materials or components. It could be updated fonts or displays.
Tag Heuer is going through an evolutionary phase now with the current CEO, J-C Biver, with his vision of how it fits in the LVMH stable. Tag Heuer has always been about impetuous youth, timing short epochs (chronographs) and daring viz. Steve McQueen and racing. So, it is no surprise that their latest offerings emphasise technology, adventure, timing precision and cool.
I will leave it to those with hands-on experience of the new watch to comment. I can only tell you about the management philosophy behind Tag Heuer. In that way, they are still "True" to the original Monaco model.

MTF
