Trouble with a Reine de Naples

Jul 20, 2013,01:38 AM

I purchased a Reine de Naples for my wife.  After using the watch for a few weeks (without any issues) we put the watch onto a watch winder (I have three of the same model watch winders, one for my IWC perpetual calendar, another for my Breguet 5207, and another for my Cartier Pasha automatic).  All the watches work fine with these three winders.  They are bi-directional and TPD can be selected.

Strangely, after putting the Reine de Naples on the winder (overnight, about 10hrs) when my wife looked at the watch the next morning, it was running fast by about 1hr.  I then reset the time, and left the watch off the winder for approx 4hrs.  It was running fast by 20mins.  After leaving the watch off the winder for a day, the time is now fine (no longer fast) and remains "on time" as long as the watch is worn, or manually wound.

We turned in the watch to the Breguet Boutique in Singapore, and after 2 weeks, we were told that there is nothing wrong with the watch.  According to the technician,  "there is no watch winder in the world that will work with the Reine de Naples watch; it must be worn to be wound."  Exact quote.

While I'm not a fine watch technician, this sounds very odd.  Is it true?  Does anyone have a similar experience with this watch?

Thanks.

Potentially the magnetic field emitted by the (working) watch winder could have affected the timekeeping of your wife's watch. I am doubtful that the statement by the technician is correct.

That does sound odd...

Hello blenny 100 Does your wife's watch have a power reserve indicator? If yes, when you took it off the automatic winder did it appear to have a full wind? When the mainspring in a watch runs down, or has a low power reserve. The watch will run fast, bec...

Well, I spoke to a senior member of the staff at the outlet. Far more knowledgable, and much more helpful. He indicated that the Reine de Naples has an off-centered balance and uses a uni-directional (counter-clockwise) winding motion. It requires at leas...
