The aging of the german population will probably be one part of the explanation. (not the only one, though)
My father did regularly drive 160-170 km/h himself up until his 60s. He‘s now in his late 80s and never exceeds 130 km/h, usually driving at around 120 km/h.

Switzerland (on motorways) is such a drag for me, even with cruise control. I constantly feel the itch to grab a book or something, as everything is happening at a snail’s pace. The slight additional speed in Austria or France makes all the difference 😊🤷🏻...
