Mercedes Class C or E Coupé. Thoughts?

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2017-14:46
I have to say that the last iterations of the Class C or E Coupé are quite appealing. C: E: I find the C even more appealing. Dynamic and sensual. The engines? 4 Cylinders wouldn't be my first choice. AMG 63 are a dream, but maybe something in between wou...

I would love the....

...new E63 AMG S. Wow!! Best, John.

My wife just got a silver C. She absolutely loves it

 By: descartes1 : November 24th, 2017-15:05
It's a 4 cyl turbo 4matic. She preferred it to the E (which she's also had in the past). Great car. Sporty. Perfect size. Feels larger than prior C models. Of the 10-12 benzes she's had over the years (all different models) I think it's her favorite.

The 300? [nt]

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2017-15:17

Yes, 300 4matic [nt]

It's fast as hell, especially in sport plus mode

Go for the E

 By: dedestexhes : November 24th, 2017-15:16
the C is really almost a 2 seater. Sitting in the back really feels cramped. Also the dash is more up to date in the E. I think the 400 is a good match for this car. Also the air suspension makes a huge difference. Also, do not compare with previous gener...

Downsizing engines ....

 By: bimbeano : November 24th, 2017-16:06
I just had a look on the website , it seems the 180/200/300 are 4 cilinders up to 250 hp or so. The 400 is a V6, probably a 3 liter with 333 hp. So i would suggest you don't buy a 4-pot as you would be seriously disappointed ... instead go for the AMG , t...

Honestly ?

 By: bimbeano : November 24th, 2017-16:20
Go for the M4 ..... take the suspension you can set to different modes and all will be fine ;-) All other cars will pale next to this .... ...

It's nice, but for a new car, I would go for the M2 over the M4.

 By: vitalsigns : November 24th, 2017-17:07
Less power, but more fun.

Wait for the m2 cs

 By: dedestexhes : November 24th, 2017-21:25
With engine of m4 with 400 hp + Dirk

+1

M2CS even M2CSL

Will see that. [nt]

M2 M4 ...

.. can be equipped with a manual gearbox ! The1M i drive from time to time also has a manual and it sure is fun to drive (ask dirk). Though if you want to be more safe while driving (very) fast go for the automatic.

By the time you tried them all ...

 By: bimbeano : November 25th, 2017-12:30
.. the newer models will start coming out .. so you can start all over again

LOL. True! [nt]

Lived your problem and the answer was surprising

 By: Tick Talk : November 24th, 2017-16:31
to me, at least. Last year I traded off my C63 Coupe for an E400 Wagon and today I wouldn't go back. The AMG was a difficult car to live with as a daily driver. You fall into to C, and sit in the E. The back seats are only suitable for your in-laws and en...

 By: InHavenPro : November 24th, 2017-17:33
the answer is simple - how much space do you need??

Well,

 By: InHavenPro : November 26th, 2017-11:23
I haven't driven either myself but I would rather easily imagine that the C would be more engaging and fun to drive due to its compact size and lower weight while the E would offer more amenities and comfort at the expense of sportiness.

The C Class, C43 or C63S Coupe...

 By: patrick_y : November 24th, 2017-17:55
In the USA, we have a C300 (2.0 liter), C43 AMG (V6), and C63S AMG (V8). I'd consider one either of the AMG versions. The question now is what color are you going to get it in... I'd also double check with the Mercedes Service/Repair at the dealership and...

It's important to note that Mercedes has a very large emphasis internally towards long term reliability of the drivetrain. And they've been doing the 60 degree V6 for many years now, and they already have a lot of experience. The common problems with the ...

I have the previous generation E550

 By: jim vancouver : November 24th, 2017-19:25
Hi, Quite pleased with it, though it really needs the 4matic under acceleration. I passed on the C because it was cramped in the back, as noted by others. And, at the time, the C had not gotten its current pleasing shape. Suggest that you get the biggest ...

All the best! [nt]

I agree!

 By: sham1 : November 24th, 2017-21:15
Both cars are a huge improvement on their predecessors, both inside and out. The E class is near perfect apart from the rear passengers window which looks fussy. The interior triumphs over the C as it has so much S class in it. The E can also fit two adul...

I have learned the hard and expensive way of driving the wrong car on certain roads

Only one, and its neither but still a Merc

for an E-Class. Sexy car, to be sure, but living with it was another matter. A friend with the 4-dr version has similar space issues with a new kid and is also looking at the E... Tick Talk 2017 ...

 By: KMII : November 26th, 2017-08:46
Unless it’s the second or third car. Several friends and colleagues have one and all decided against getting another. It seems it’s too overdone - great on a test drive or for the first few months but then it can start to grate...

Possibly...

I have only driven a GLE with the engine but in a C it should be lively enough.

Here's some perspective on AMG

 By: jim vancouver : November 26th, 2017-13:01
AMG has traditionally operated as a separate division. Tuning showroom-specification cars. For aggressive drivers who hate to be cut off by Ferraris or turbo Porsche. The penalty is the ride comfort... "The spectrum of coupe personalities ranges from tour...

And getting regular exposure to track driving as well, I imagine to be able to handle a 63 - I regularly drove one on track. I guess the more important bit is having a good idea of your limits as a driver and not exceeding these - not claiming I am suprem...

The fastest that I have driven in a small car on a highway was 210 downhill in a Fiat Punto turbo (1.4 engine). Of course, there was no way to effect an emergency maneuver at the limit because of the car's tremendous understeer. Would have been interestin...

And quite draining if you do it for hours on end - but no risk of falling asleep behind the wheel
