My recommendation...
Don't order the Model 3 just yet. You have way too many cars!
I would only order the Model 3 if I decided I wanted to drive tremendous mileage within my local jurisdiction (since the range is limited, you can't drive it outside).
The main reason why I would want a Model 3 is if my mileage goes up, then I want to reduce the burden on the planet. Let's say the cost of petrol and the cost of electricity is equivalent to the environmental damage they create. Unfortunately we don't know how environmentally damaging it is to build a Model 3 and build a normal ICE car; but those "sunk costs" can't be easily calculated.
The cost/environmental-cost to operate my current car is around $0.24 a mile assuming premium gasoline is $4 per US Gallon. We are assuming that pollution costs and environmental costs should be targeted at around $4/US Gallon.
The cost/environmental-cost to operate a Tesla Model 3, assuming I get 3 miles per kWh (air conditioning on, and mostly highway driving), and assuming a kWh of electricity is $0.13 at evening recharge rates, the cost per mile is around $0.043 per mile.
Overall, I imagine that the power plant producing energy (electricity in Northern California comes mostly from natural gas, wind, and hydro electric power) is probably even less pollutive than 1/6th gasoline, but I'm not certain.
But the tradeoff is only significant and worthy of the investment of a new car if you drive a large amount of mileage a year! So if I drove only 5,000 miles a year, it's not worth the trade-off to get a new car, since so much pollution goes into manufacturing a new car. But if I drive 25,000 miles then it might be worthwhile. From a cost perspective, 25,000 a year in my current car is $6000 in petrol! VS $1075 for electricity!
The other smart thing to do might be to consider a used electric car. The BMW i3 is well made and the factory was green from the start. The car is designed to have maximum value in recycling too. And a 2015 BMW i3 with Range Extender can be had for around $16K to $17K USD, Certified.
