I meant this for the E46 post…I had this model!

 

It was a 2003 with SMG and it was awesome.  People did not know how to shift it, they just slammed the paddles, it required a little finesse by slightly letting off ever so slightly the gas with each shift, and it was smooth as silk.  In other words it required some thought and driver involvement beyond just pulling on the paddle.  If you did not, it was harsh, but, I learned quickly to do that, and it made for an amazing driving experience.  One of my best cars ever.
