I don't have a lot of G-wagon experience.

But the little experience I have had on the highway does seem to indicate the car is a bit dated. The car was noisy on the highway. The handling isn't great. But I love the look and the fact that it's significantly hand-built.
But, what I love about the G-Wagon is the fact that it's still heavily hand-built. You're buying a mass produced piece of history. Mass produced, yes. Not as good as a modern car on the road, yes. But it's handbuilt. Kind of like the watches we like. They're not as good as a Casio. But they're somewhat hand-made. The watches are still mass produced, but we still feel that they're a little special.
But, for day-to-day driving, you're probably right, the Cayenne is definitely easier to drive.
