7500 ...
... is what i see max on the Clio as it would shut off anyway ... just an hour ago i was exciting a fast bend in fourth on full throttle ... and got a blimp on the tacho ... the sound was great and the needle was somewhere around 7300
... then there is a soundbleep that let's you know it's time to change gear ... .
I remember the CRX V-tec in the 90ies, revvable to 8400 rpm ... wow !!! But as i used to be used to four cilinder bikes in the mid nineties 12-13,000 rpm was not uncommon .. i think a modern 600 now revs up to 16,000 or so !!!!
Didn't know the flappys on a Fer andLambo had that neutral feature too, quite convenient i must say.
X and S type ... well i had a friend who owned a 3 litre S-type from 2002 till 2012 and he didn't seem to have had any trouble except for r the heating system that broke down after 5 years ... other than that no troubles at all. My uncle has had some XJ and an XK8 and the build was better than any BMW he ever owned ... .
Our X-type is now 11 years old ... has only 50k miles on the clock and i don't think there have been issues with it (i just bought it 7-8 months ago so we will see what the future brings ... but i must say i'm really amazed by the build quality. My goal is to drive it at least another 4-5 years hoping not much will break down

... i do take care as i know you have to take care of an 11 year old car previously owned by a certain miss Silver who sold the car because she got to old to drive

... the car has been maintained at Jaguar-dealers throughout the years (every april - about every 5000 miles LOL) . When people see us in our JAGUUUUUAAAAAARRR

they are always amazed and think we bought a brandnew car ... that's how clean and fresh it still looks .... .When i wash it by hand you feel the paintwork is topclass compared to my 2 year old Renault, can you imagine ? The wheels are still in an amazing condition and the quality of the leather can be compared to the XJ-series. The dashboard has a few flaws, 2 bits of plastic loosening because of the sun i suspect but for 3000 quid you can't complain can ya

?
So how come you heard about the poor build quality ? I suspect that the later (past 2004) models became more mainstream (2,1 petrol + diesels) compared to the early 2,5 and 3,0 V6 models (with 4WD as standard). Back in 2001 when Jaguar started building these X on the Mondeo-platform they wanted a true Jag and built them likewise i suppose ... a couple of years later the diesels came and less time was probably spent on building it, i have a friend who had a diesel estate and got rid of it after a year

because 'things' went wrong too much to be good.
I spoke to a guy working at Ford-Genk in Belgium at the time where they were also preparing X-type prototypes and he told me that these were NO Ford's at all, build quality and engineering where of a different class, the 2.5 V6 delivers 170 hp in the Mondeo, the X-type got 196 hp (abd that's an atmospheric engine .... it still revs happily up to 6500 rpm ,but not too often my dear

.
That's it for now, have to do some serious work and kick someone's arse so hard .... grrrrrrrr......
I'll be back !
A very angry Bim ....
