Audemars Piguet

The simple answer to your question is, yes...

...I find the basic aesthetics presented by the ROO attractive.  I felt this way before trying on the Montauk.  While I didn't discuss it in my article, I actually immediately felt the visual push-pull of the concept you touch upon in your post -- squaring the circle.  Art History teaches us that the circular form has often been used to represent perfection, eternity, the divine; and that the square is similarly used as a motif to represent mankind and his earthly works, so combining the two shapes creates a geometric harmony between heaven and earth.  I'm not saying that Gerald Genta had this symbolic concept in mind when he created the original RO design in the 70s, but the watch presents me with this feeling nonetheless.

As for the seemingly endless parade of ROO variants -- I like them.  I'd rather be given more choices than less, and it intrigues me to see how the designers at AP try to continually refresh the watch with various color schemes and other themes/features.

Cheers,
Daos
