I think you are right on some level

There is something to be said about advertising/marketing and the influence of celebrities. I won’t deny that part of my tastes have been shaped by what James Bond or that CEO wears.
A couple of stories I have on my journey to the Sub: I was once waiting for a flight at an airport and saw a pilot waiting a few seats beside me. He was young, likely a co-pilot. He wore a sub and the impression it gave me was that the sub made him look more sophisticated, more experienced, if you will. On another trip, I noticed an old man taking a seat in an airplane wearing a sub. The sub had a different effect on this wearer. It gave him a vitality and an adventurousness. That the same watch for different wearers can convey an image of seasoned experience and sophistication or vitality and adventurousness, perhaps due in large part to the sub’s association with Bond, McQueen, and many other celebrated artists of the past half century, and perhaps in some part due to its pure looks, is a marvel. Such is the mystic and wonder of the sub, making it greater than 100x the sum of its parts. The same could also be said about the APRO and Daytona, in my opinion. smile
As a side note, I believe I have reached the pinnacle of the 3 main categories of watches, IMHO:
- APRO as the ultimate elegant, dressy haute horlogerie sport watch
- Daytona as the ultimate chrono/motorsport watch
- Sub as the ultimate dive/military watch
I challenge anyone to find an even more iconic piece in each of these categories smile
