Expensive servicing but worth it
Sep 07, 2020,07:36 AM
A long time ago, I traded 3 watches to get this RO dual time from my godpa. It was in a bad state when I got it - screws were aligned wrongly, evidence of a third-party service.
While the lady answering the calls at the service centre in Singapore was a stiff, she was professional, and made sure the piece was handled properly.
The repair cost was close to $2500 USD and they inventoried what they replaced - white gold hands, new white gold screws, bezel polishing, gasket changes and movement servicing. As an irreversible move, I asked them if they would engrave my name behind it. Yes they did it too.
I’m grateful I have an AP and that their service centre was professional.
After-sales service is as important as selling pieces. It is not the question of paying, because die-hard collectors will do anything to get their pieces refurbished. I think AP got that right.
Here is a piece that is almost 33 years old, still fully serviceable at the authorized service centre. Cannot say for Rolex - they made it so difficult for me today to get my one year old Airking authenticated and fully serviced (I am not the kind who bargains or suggest ways to cut costs, and will pay full price as a function of the service rendered).
