A. Lange & Söhne

What a technical piece !!

Merci Nicolas !

well like many people here, my felings are mixed depending on the side of the watch. So, OK, the dial could have been -much- better, but after one day looking at it, it gets a bit better depending on the color of this odd top part.

Now, to me, it is, first, a great hommage to the Dresden Opera clock as well as those IWC Pallweber I often dream about. This is, I think, an interesting way to fit classicism with an "innovative" display mode. Well again, could have ben better with slight details.

Second, I got totally hooked by the technical details. I went through a first reading of the pattent this afternoon, and if my understanding is right (tough reading and not used to english pattents language), the minute's jump is synchronised with the position of the second hand. Well, I think this is the first time I see this in a watch. I remember taking part to some discussions long ago about such a difficulty. That's something really tricky to make, and they made it. I allways felt a bit strange with those retrograd jumps that would occur at 27 seconds, or, 52... well here should be 60, and with such a big second hand that was mendatory. You could see on the Pallweber how small was the hand to avoid some confusion between a real second indication, and a "running" signal from the mechanics.

And I must also highlight that the mechanism is very well presented at the back of the watch, especially with this force constante, marvelous and with a real purpose (much more than other watche proposing it).

Technically, there is also the fact that the discs should jump "smoothly", giving an innovative ballet. Maybe a bit of sound from the fly vane...

So in the end, this is an interesting challenge for Lange. They prove us here a capacity of innovation I wouldn't suspect. We knew since Basel 2008 that there would still be some digital display coming, but I wouldn't have bet on a Lange.

I am very, very impatient to see it live. It's quite unusual for me I must say, although I do not expect major changes in my opinion about the dial ... nor in my salary anyway. But I'll surely enjoy watching it !
