The farther a rotor's mass is from the center, the higher the torque generated. If the bearing of the rotor can only hold a certain mass, it makes sense to shift most of the weight of the rotor to the outside in the form of the specifically heavy platinum. Accordingly, its connection to the axle must be made of a relatively light material. 18K gold has a too high specific gravity for this.

Any opinions of the Lange fans? Any experience with this movement? I own the old Saxonia with the sax-o-mat movement, in my opinion the best Lange automatic movement ever made. But what about this one? ...

I can vouch that the winding is silky smooth, no wobble and I have never had a power reserve issue due to insufficient winding.

I don't see any difference in finishing quality between my Saxonia Outsize Date and my Zeitwerk. The third watch in this picture is finished to another level entirely.
The saxonia is a $30,000 watch, I'm quite certain L&S did not cut any corners here with chatons or rotor. I trust it is all related to functionality. How much can they actually "cut cost" with these few small items if they are producing a few hundred ...
I never said that ALS is cutting costs. I only showed the differences. And let's not forget: all movements are twice assembled!
What is in my opinion another important criterion in an ALS watch is whether it has got an in-house balance spring.
True ... but the Sax-Omat movement has got an 18k gold and pkatinum rotor.

But as a collector I like diversity, especially within the same product line. Two Saxonia Big Date, but they can't be more different ...
