SIHH : my Lange report

Apr 13, 2008,11:59 AM

First of all, I would like to thank a lot Peter Chong and to say a big hello to Peter Conrad I was happy to meet during the SIHH.

I was very happy to have the ability to visit the Lange booth during the SIHH because it's always a pleasure to meet the Lange people and to discuss with them.

Let's get closer !

The big novelty is the Cabaret Tourbillon. The main feature of the watch is to be the first watch with a tourbillon which can be stopped. The point is that a very precise mecanism is useless if you can't set the time properly.

Of course, when you push the crown, the Tourbillon resumes to work automatically.

The Cabaret Tourbillon is available in PG and platinum :

Even if of course it's larger the classic Cabaret, the watch is very harmonious due to the fact it's not too thick :

The finishings are outstanding :

I really enjoyed to wear it ! It's very confortable.

With the my 1815 chronograph :

The movie which presented the watch was a 360° impressive movie. We had the feeling to be inside the watch. At the end, believe me, everybody said : "WOW"

I use this picture taken by Peter Chong which gives you an idea of the movie :

I arrived a bit too late to watch the movie with our group but I had the ability to see it after and Anthony de Haas did me a personal presentation of the stopping system ! Thanks a lot to him !

Another novelty : the new Grande Lange 1.

The differences are the new dials which are no longer "bicolor" dials. I really think the new version is nicer thanks to the neat dials.

Other pictures of some watches displayed in the booth :

The Double-Split :

The Tourbograph :

I start to really love the Richard Lange... maybe my next Lange watch ?

Thanks to Jenny Mädel, I had the chance to handle two masterpieces from Lange : the Tourbograph and the Lange 31 days.

The Tourbograph is impressive !

The caliber, the dial, the chaîne-fusée system, each and every detail are top-class !

The 31 days with its key :

A true big and heavy watch !!!

The chronograph seems to be very small !

But who is the proud owner of this Tourbillon Pour le Mérite ?

It's the Tourbillon Pour le Mérite # 1 so it's the Walter Lange's one !

The wrist-shot !

There are 14 years between these two Tourbillons.

The menu of the Lange dinner :

During the dinner, I could see a beautiful Datograph Pisa :

So, what do I think about the 2008 novelties ?

It's obvious that the Cabaret Tourbillon is a great watch due to the stopping system and the great finishings.

Of course, as a big fan of Lange watches, I expect even more from the brand and I would like to see again the energy and the creativity of the beginning.

But we don't have to be wrong : the current work in Lange& Sohne is very important and is building the fundations for the future : the Lange academy, the watchmaking school, the in-house spiral are the proof that Fabian Krone and the Lange staff are currently focussing their energy in structurating the company. A necessary work.

Obviously, we would like to see every year novelties like the Datograph in 1999 but I'm sure that big surprises will come in the close future. And there is something which hasn't changed since 1994 : they are the outstanding finishings of the watches, from the Saxonia to the Tourbograph.

I would like to thank a lot the whole Lange team, Fabian Krone, Arnd Einhorn, Katrin Meusinger, Joanna Gribben, Anthony de Haas, Harmuth Knothe, Jenny Mädel, Sukaiyna Gokal for the time they spent with me, their kindness, the invitation and their attention. It's always a great pleasure for me to be with them. And a special thank to Mr Walter Lange for his availability.

If Lange&Sohne is my favourite brand, it's mainly due to the fact I really appreciate its staff !

Fr.Xavier
