NWA: A Special One Returns

I first discovered Lange 10 years ago. I was already familiar with German manufacturers as a sweet alternative to The Swiss. Previously I was one of the fortunate few who had the opportunity to own a Dornbluth 04.0. 

My very first Lange was a yellow gold 36 mm 1815 that I bought from a friend. There was something very special about that watch; It left an incredibly strong impression on me. It evoked emotion. And it was also a major gateway Lange for me to other 1815 models: The silvered dial, heat blued alpha hands, thickly printed Arabic numerals, seconds sub dial at 6, no date, sleek case with perfectly wearable proportions, And last but certainly not least… That gorgeous movement that will forever be engrained in my mind! It is otherworldly! 

Fast forward to 2017-2018 and I was very keen on experimenting with different 1815 models. I wanted to own different metals and sizes and see how I got along with each one of them individually. By this point, I had tried rose gold 38.5 mm, white gold 40 mm and finally, white gold up/down (39 mm).

Stupidly, foolishly, I was usually chasing something else , so they all got away from me for a period of time 

Last week, I had the golden opportunity to reacquire an 1815. The timing was right; I traded my Sub and other German, green GO SeaQ 39.5 mm + a little cash on top for my favorite Lange. We negotiated a deal that couldn’t be missed!

This time, the 1815 returns to me in the spectacular white gold 38.5 mm variant. Simple. Classic. Timeless. And it really sings to me! Having tried just about all of them now, lol, I must say this size wears best on my 7 inch wrist. Went with the white metal this time because it’s so versatile! For my lifestyle, I’ll be looking at opportunities to dress this one down with casual straps. 

If I’m going to own a gold watch, for me, this is the one to own.

Interestingly, this purchase happens to coincide with my 20th anniversary at work 🙂
