Believe I've found . . .

. . . my last watch.

smile

And yes, had it on my wrist for the better part of a minute.

Many thanks to Ari for making the trip from LA to share his Sidestep for my viewing pleasure.  If it's still in his possession a year from now, chances are good it will wind up as the pinnacle of my collection.

I love it. The engraving on the 3/4 plates is icing on the cake. Wish they did it more.

Frankly, the only problematic aspect of the Sidestep . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-17:40
. . . before seeing it in the metal yesterday was the floral movement engraving. After one glance all doubt was dispelled. ;-)

Absolutely lovely

Loveliness is a virtue . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-17:42
. . . as your astutely curated collection testifies. Hope to see it again in the not-too-distant future! Art

Totally gorgeous.

It's got You written all over it ........

You would be in a good position . . .

. . . to know, Filip!

Oh,

and I'm soon to embark on this 500 page journey since the book finally arrived on my doorstep today.... ...

Love this Saint Gallen!

When I eventually get an Overseas on my wrist in the future, they will be tied for first place 😇....

FITMOM is a tough read, but . . .

 By: Dr No : April 13th, 2024-01:54
. . . once you're thru with it, you'll be marking the calendar in the distant future for a second go-aroumd. It's that profound.

Every book worth its 'salt'....

 By: InHavenPro : April 13th, 2024-02:07
ought to have that effect . Thanks Art, have a pleasant weekend! Filip

You're an admirer, too?! . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-17:48
. . . kinda feels like Cary and Jimmy hashing it out . . . . . . over Katherine. The good news is, there's fifty of 'em. ...

I love every version of the 'side-step' : )

 By: mdg : April 12th, 2024-18:03
...the seconds location is a subtle change that just looks great...

A matter timing, really. If Ari's sidestep is still under his domain . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-17:51
. . . next year, chances are better than good. 🙏

“I'd say that you were the perfect combination of imperfections. I'd say that your nose was just a little too short, your mouth just a little too wide. But yours was a face that a man could see in his dreams for the whole of his life.” (Alec Guinness - ‘K...

You knew . . .

. . . this was coming. Good to see you back, Tom. Best, Art

Art - Nice meeting you today and chatting watches over sushi. Till next time!

Before seeing the Sidestep in person my take was the engraving might be . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-17:56
. . . a tad rich, but that bias dissipated at first glance. Whoever designed the Sidestep had a refined sense of aesthetics.

Absolutely striking!

And not one seen often. Sounds like a dream come true

Not quite yet . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-17:57
. . . but the wheels are already spinning.

As luck would have it, Ari also owns my other . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-18:04
. . . favorite Lange. I've been familiar with the blue 1815 up-and-down for decades and might have seen one many years ago. You could've knocked me down with a feather when I realized Ari had both of my dream Langes. ...

One (side)step closer !

Seems like a fitting watch to crown any collection.

It wouldn't be a safe queen, either . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-18:08
. . . but my Omegas would have pangs of jealousy. I didn't want to take it off my wrist yesterday!

A gorgeous timepiece!

We're in furious . . .

. . . agreement!

Beautiful! Really beautiful!

 By: OldFashionedMatt : April 12th, 2024-02:00
And I absolutely love the engraving! Gorgeous!

There's an aspect of Sidestep not dissimilar to that . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-19:44
. . . of any object aesthetically pleasing. Size, dimensions, proportions, weight, detail, color, contrast - all blended to good effect.

Hi Art. Stunning piece that I look forward to seeing at our next G-T-G.

 By: Mitch K : April 12th, 2024-03:34
All that is true. But your last watch? How often have I heard that?

:))) +1!

 By: amanico : April 12th, 2024-05:37

Skeptical? Can hardly blame you, Mitch . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-19:47
. . . but this time I really mean it. ...

Jackie's smile says it all.

 By: Mitch K : April 13th, 2024-00:30
Skeptical? Nah. Experienced, my friend. The disease runs deep in us and how can one refuse the next pretty face?

Always been a sucker for beautiful cars, . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-19:51
. . . women, and watches. 😆

. . . and the last, too. (Unless HSTE . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-19:49
. . . decides to offload his 2914-1.)

This is the 1815 Wempe Sidestep.

 By: CR : April 12th, 2024-15:22
Lange made 125 Sidesteps (75 RG, 50 PT) in 2003-2004 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of former retail partner Wempe. Lange did not use the Sidestep movement in any standard production model.

I enjoy all my watches, including the humblest . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-20:01
. . . like the Ω ref 2242 that's on my wrist . . . . . . this very moment. It's gained five seconds after one day on my wrist . . . that level of timing performance for a movement made over eight decades ago is personally compelling. ...

That really is remarkable performance for an 80 year old — I aspire to age similarly!

 By: RabidManatee : April 13th, 2024-17:33
I see the same thing in the Lange as I do many of your Omegas: they go about their business of keeping time fairly quietly, but excellently.

Well, I'd like to have an Omega central tourbillon . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2024-20:06
. . . but pigs will fly first.

You know this was coming ...

If you like, wind forward to 2:00 minutes, better watch all.

What you probably . . .

 By: Dr No : April 14th, 2024-14:42
. . . didn't know, Count, is that Etta's father . . . . . . was teen No's hero, Rudolf Wanderone, aka Minnesota Fats. ...
