Must have it to represent the unique aesthetic of the brand, if only one.
Despite liking both - Duh....
I'll play the contrarian here and choose the 'other' one simply because I love the aesthetic of the dial even more....
Tough choice
Pros of 1815: manual wind, curved logo, luminous dial and iconic 1815 numerals. Pros of Saxonia: outsize date, automatic but caliber which is more interesting to look at, nice black/silver aesthetic. Cons of 1815: caliber which is a bit boring to look at,...

And I would urge you to look at the early Langematiks with or without the date.
1815
The dial is much more pleasing to me, especially with the beautifully blued hands. If I was in a room with folks wearing both, I’d be admiring the 1815 from a distance. It is eye catching.
I like the more modern look of the Saxonia, but compromised legibility and a disappointing movement is a deal-breaker.
Bring back the lumed Saxonia hands and the Sax-o-Mat movement, and then it would be terrific and far more interesting. Cheers, John
I agree! Owned the RG Saxonia...
...liked the black date window but the movement was disappointing. Sold the watch and the L1 Darth came instead. Would go for the 1815 but my choice would be the up/down

The 1815
The simplicity is very appealing to me. One other thing. Does anyone else feel that the entirety of the 1815 can be seen at a glance? The eyes move more often with the Saxonia.

If Lange did things the right way (as on the Sax-o-Mat) they would've made the rotor of gold and the mass remains platinum. A real pity that this is what it's come to, but cutting corners (costs) is nothing new in this industry... The old ways are best......
Bothered me too.
I remember being at the boutique and asking if it was gold or not because there was no stamp of gold. Of course, there's the answer right there. In my mind was why??
