You are offered both for about the same price, but can only choose one! Both 38.5 mm, both white gold. Which do you choose and why?

Big date is iconic Lange
Must have it to represent the unique aesthetic of the brand, if only one.
COUNT, I think this is the model with the L.086 caliber - Arcap full rotor, pt. mass.

I'll play the contrarian here and choose the 'other' one simply because I love the aesthetic of the dial even more....
I love blued hands, prefer no date and usually would pick a dial with higher legibility..... but not this time. It would be the big date for me.
Tough choice
Pros of 1815: manual wind, curved logo, luminous dial and iconic 1815 numerals.
Pros of Saxonia: outsize date, automatic but caliber which is more interesting to look at, nice black/silver aesthetic.
Cons of 1815: caliber which is a bit boring to look at, lack of the iconic outsize date.
Cons of Saxonia: very/too symmetrical dial (I prefer the off centred date of the Lange 1), not fond of the double indexes at 3 & 9 (hard for me to say why, but I find them too "straight" and, for whatever reason, I mind them less at 12 & 6).
Verdict: overall, I'd go for the Saxonia, but with reservations.

And I would urge you to look at the early Langematiks with or without the date.
I handled both last week-end and agree the Saxonia hands often blend into the dial. And despite being the same size, the 1815 looks much bigger
I agree that it appears bigger. Surprisingly, since a white dial often appears larger than a white.
1815
The dial is much more pleasing to me, especially with the beautifully blued hands. If I was in a room with folks wearing both, I’d be admiring the 1815 from a distance. It is eye catching.
Big Date! As it's one of complications that defines Lange, but also it's got a rather fab black dial.
I like the more modern look of the Saxonia, but compromised legibility and a disappointing movement is a deal-breaker.
Bring back the lumed Saxonia hands and the Sax-o-Mat movement, and then it would be terrific and far more interesting.

I agree! Owned the RG Saxonia...
...liked the black date window but the movement was disappointing. Sold the watch and the L1 Darth came instead. Would go for the 1815 but my choice would be the up/down
