Wristscan for 29th May - Complications

By: Baron - Mr Red : May 29th, 2014-06:47
Apologies for starting this a little early..... This week's topic is "complications". What is your favourite complication? Minute repeater? Amagnetic? Central second hand? Automatic? Water-proof? GMT? World Time? Lume? No lume? Chronograph. Or maybe pure ...

Well, Let me think a bit.. My fav complications are pretty simple ones ! :)

By: hs111 : May 29th, 2014-09:45
.. along these lines and your intro, dear Joe, I deliberated a bit: - is it a single complication ? ( actually I don't have any watch with high- end complication(s).. - a World Time or Geographic ? - well, to me more indication, than complication.. - moon...

That is a good watch to pic!

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 29th, 2014-12:01
You have so many complications in one - like a kinder egg! ;) Hour, Minute, Sub-second, Big date, Day-Night indication, Reverso, GMT, GMT indicator, 24 hour indicator, Power reserve..... Did I miss any? Great choice, my friend! :) HAGWE Blomman

Thx so much for your kind words.. And yes, in moments..

By: hs111 : May 30th, 2014-22:44
.. like this, life is so goot & sweet.. Our little drink together, " au bord de la Seine", in the deck chairs after a cool ride in your cabrio, also counts to those... To many more of these moments !! Thanks & Cheers, Best, hs

Each & every one of these.. easily qualifies to be chosen.. Thus..

By: hs111 : May 29th, 2014-13:40
.. I can understand, that you can't decide for only one ! My humble personal picks, if allowed, would go for the JLC MR, the UN Sonata and the PP World Time - yet, as you can see .. - that way, I have not even touched the Rolex " Magic Bag" ! ;) But also ...

In terms of friendliness, the Sonata with its alarm and GMT is a champion.

By: amanico : May 29th, 2014-13:45
While the JLC MMR is pure magic. The PP is a dream. And the Rolex GMTs are pure rapture. No, I can't choose between magic, dream, rapture and friendliness... No, I can't. No.. I don't want to. ;) Best, Nicolas

Your last statement said it all.. You don't want to.. Rightfully so ! ;)

By: hs111 : May 29th, 2014-13:52
.. we understand you, and will dispense you from this cruel exercise.. - The judges will have their iwn problem ! ;) ;) Best, hs

I have to say...

By: Baron - Mr Red : May 30th, 2014-00:21
.......i a a big fan of simplicity. I like complications when I "need" them, but that is so rarely the case...so yes....simplicity is a great take.

Two watches...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 29th, 2014-11:56
Four of my favorite complications: - Alarm - Diver (Waterproof) - Antimagnetic - Chronometer But the most difficult complication that both of these watches have: for me they are Grail's, Reserve de Patron, call it what you want... They form the core of wh...

Oh boy........

Seems as though once grey Karrée is out of . . .

By: Dr No : May 29th, 2014-13:57
. . . his usual resting place, he doesn't want to go back! The safe box in the bank must be a cold and dark place ;-) . . .

This is Mr Grey's last fling . . .

By: Dr No : May 29th, 2014-14:04
. . . in the sunshine for a long time, h; back to the safe deposit box until his turn gets called again!

I love this shot....

By: Baron - Mr Red : May 30th, 2014-00:23
.....makes me want to grab some bags and head to the sea.....and of course contemplate which watch to take!!

Whirling, spinning, mesmurising...

By: andrewluff : May 29th, 2014-12:38
I can't help getting lost in a tourbillon... Here's a few from the last couple of weeks... Sports watch...? An uncomplicated breakfast... Complicated but simple with jeans... Or one to dress up in... Cheers Andrew ...

An uncomplicated complication

By: sfoskett : May 29th, 2014-13:40
My favorite complications are the ones that are so clean you don't know they're there. This is doubly true of the Nomos Tangomat, probably the "cleanest" watch ever made. White faces and silver bezels It's actually hard to see the complication in the Nomo...

thanks Hans!

By: MattS : May 30th, 2014-08:42
Yes, this one is a bit like a full option one! PCG, CR, Gilt, SWISS, and exclamation point!...all original 1960! Matt

Moon and tides

Cal. 48

By: deBalzac : May 31st, 2014-02:10
Thank You Blomman, your pictures isn't bad either... Never seen pictures of the cal. 48 before? Designed by André Frey in 1943, produced by Minerva from 1943 to about 1960, and again from 1995 to 2001. and a drawing signed by the Master... Best Regards Li...

It looks really robust built!

Powerreserve for me

By: crown comfort : May 30th, 2014-07:42
simple yet useful. I like PR indicators, they are useful and give a dial something special. Here an example from my collection: GP Sea Hawk II "To John Harrison" Check out the fine pattern on the PR dial. HAGWE, CC ...

size is okay but...

By: crown comfort : May 30th, 2014-10:13
The case is 43mm without crown, quite okay, I guess what I underestimated is the weight, as this one is in solid gold and a hefty 180g. :D

Tough call Baron...There's so many!

By: -RWK- : May 30th, 2014-09:49
24 h dials...As all watches/clocks should be ;-) UTC High WR And easy to read dials (EHH photo used with permission). HAGWE! -- Richard. ...

easy-to-read dials....

By: Baron - Mr Red : May 30th, 2014-10:03
.....yep..... that should be a complication in itself. Totally agree.....i have definitely found myself selling watches with dials that are too....err.....fussy.

Dear Count...

By: -RWK- : May 30th, 2014-11:26
With the new math taught these days, Roman numerals are a complication ;-) Cheers, -- Richard.

Alarms for me

By: jml_watches : May 30th, 2014-11:56
Hi All If you go on the number of variations of the same thing, then it has to be an alarm for me. There is something magical about having a little mechanical alarm clock strapped to your wrist - the other bonus is that there are lots of vintage ones out ...

What is the "hole" above 12 on the Lanco? On/Off of the alarm? Best Blomman

Single crown is great

By: jml_watches : May 30th, 2014-14:00
Hi Really like the fact that everything is driven off a single crown with the Lanco - very elegant implementation of an alarm. There are caveats around buying them - Graham has explained this in detail. Yup the dot at the top shows whether the alarm is li...

I love many complications... some are completely out of my budget like...

By: Subexplorer : May 30th, 2014-13:34
... tourbillons, or minute repeaters. By the other hand, I love chronometers and Universal timers. Chronos can be enjoyed for little money and with beautiful dials, like this old Ardath... Or you can get a more classic brand beautiful dial like this old m...

Most simple complication - the date!

By: anaesdoc : May 31st, 2014-05:16
Hi Baron, my favourite compliation is the date indication, preferably in a window. Yes, I know, it is not fancy, not romantic, not technically outstanding, but very useful in my everyday life. My favoured romantic complication is the moon phase, the most ...

Very appropriate pun, Nico! LOL

By: anaesdoc : June 1st, 2014-02:10
I particularly like your expression "elegant environment". Best regards anaesdoc

Thanks, Baron!

By: anaesdoc : June 1st, 2014-02:13
Yes, these vintage Omegas are timelessly elegant timepieces. Sadly the brand has completely abandoned this production line since. Many of us vintage lovers would be happy to see these watches being reedited today. Kind regards anaesdoc

Thanks, hs!

We seem to share a similar taste in watches, then. Flawless taste in my perception :-)! Finding this vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille in marvellous condition was a great luck and even better that it happened in our CM. Yesterday I got a vintage Constellati...
