Nothing wrong with considering "value". In fact, it would be foolish not to consider it,

BUT, in general watches, especially modern watches, are a poor long term financial investment. So if a watch has the wow! factor and additionally represents good value all the better. However, without the wow! factor, one is bound to be disappointed in a watch as a long term financial investment.
"Value" to me is a different concept than a long term financial investment. In addition to Pateks being great watches intrinsically, if you sell down the line, you might lose a bit, but probably won't get killed. You might break even or even make some money. That to me represents good "value" . Most modern watches, except perhaps Rolex, do not represent a good "value".
BUT if you are buying Pateks strictly as a long term financial investment, you would be much better off buying stocks, real estate etc. Of course, you can't wear a stock on your wrist, hence what watches really should represent - an investment in happiness from the joy of ownership.
