When you love a watch so much....

Have you ever loved a watch so much you had to buy another?

So I was actually recently in Hong Kong on a visa run and I thought it a good opportunity to purchase a Zenith Doublematic. Although I pondered long and hard, and actually really liked the watch in the flesh, I felt that what I really wanted was a version of my existing Rose Gold Montre d'Aeronef Type 20 that I could wear on a daily basis. Being impatient, I decided not to wait for the 48mm GMT that could take a very long time, and headed back to China with a view to searching out one of the coveted Titanium 57.5mm Type 20's. As fortune would have it, it was not long before I found one for sale, actually in the Collectors Market of this wonderful forum, and a week or so later, it is as if two brothers, born in Switzerland, that have headed around the world (I know my first headed to South America, then to New York, and before being picked up and brought to Shanghai by me), were reunited. Yes gentlemen, I did an Arnold Schwarzenegger, who apparently, on visiting Zenith at Basel 2012, ordered both the Rose Gold and Titanium LE Type 20's.

Now the only perceptible difference here is the weight, the Titanium version being considerably lighter, but I have always thought the weight of the gold feels not too overly daunting, and is a friendly reminder to take care not to damage the timepiece when walking through daily life.

And now I have a "casual" daily watch, where the RG will be reserved for special occasions.

And I could not be happier although I eagerly wait for the day when I can add the SS 48mm Type 20 GMT to my collection.

Has anyone else out there loved a watch so much that they bought 2 or more? If so, I would love to see pictures !

The downside of this watch is that it does attract alot of attention. I see eyes popping on the street, in cafes, even in a Patek AD, staff would huddle around wanting to handle the watch. It is really weird.

Or better, who knows? Well, this is not exactly the same watch, as the metal of the case changes. And your preception of the watch a bit, also. Therefore, I know many Vintage rolex guys ( including myself ) who buy 2 or more of the same watches. Aniother...

Actually, yours is Titanium and not SS. They made them in Titanium due to the large size, and SS would have been too heavy. The 48mm GMTs are SS. The Titanium versions are quite hard to find now, but there are quite a few golds on the market. I have been ...
