A special order from the Italian Army : 2500 pieces 'Zenith A.Cairelli' - Tipo
CP-2
Made in 1970, only for Military use, not available for the public
A.M.I.=Aeronautica Militare Italiana
M.M.=Marina Militare
M.M
followed by a 6 digit number which was the inventory number for the Italian Army
(I made the number invisble)
Howerver there is another version ( same watch but another caseback)
Photo comes from the internet, don't know who to credit
As you can see, this one does not have the abbreviations A.M.I and M.M. The reason seems to be that the Army did not pay all the necessary bills and Cairelli stoped the delivery. Those with the extra abbreviations were originally assigned to the army , the others were ment to be military watches but were not used by the army ( so in total 2500 pce but I don't know how many were assigned and how many were not)
I was looking for one because I really like everything about it.
+ I adore 2 register chronographs
+ The dial looks great. ( sober and clean )
+ the size is perfect. Most vintage watches are just too small. I can appreciate how many vintage pieces look but I just can't wear a 35 or 37 mm watch. This Zenith on the other hand is 43 mm. .
+ Not for free but a bargain compared with overhyped military Panerai or Military Rolexes
....And ... it's a Zenith !!! ;-)
